Kadir Güngör (*1992) developed a love for stories early in his life. What started with Sunday morning cartoons and “Goosebumps” horror novels soon matured into a deep appreciation for stories from all genres and forms of media. But his own approach to writing is still chiefly influenced by the simple clarity of cartoons. Regardless of genre or tone, Kadir writes his stories with a strong focus on character and universal themes, filtering them through his own life experiences and research to imbue them with authenticity. His German-Turkish background and bicultural experience often influence his writing, as well as themes such as identity, tradition and opposing values. He is particularly drawn to flawed characters, optimistic stories and absurdist, “silly” humor.

During his gap year in 2020 while studying at the prestigious Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg he worked as a set writer for the 24th season of “Schloss Einstein” and interned at the ARD medical soap “In aller Freundschaft – Die jungen Ärzte” the following year. He co-wrote the absurdist comedy short “Extra Sauce” which was awarded “Best International Screenplay” at the Canberra Short Film Festival.

In 2022 he wrote the story and dialogue, as well as co-designed, the prototype for an educational, text-based video game about democratic backsliding with the Jugendstiftung Baden-Württemberg that will be used at schools throughout the state. The project is still in active development. He was published in the short story collection “Knapp Daneben” that compiles a hand-picked selection of prose from Filmakademie students. He graduated in July 2022 with a degree in screenwriting.

At the end of 2022, he participated in the First Steps Masterclass program, as well as the first iteration of the Netflix Writing Academy from January to May 2023, during which he developed a
series, from a rough idea to first pilot script. His favorite movies include the works of Studio Ghibli, Greta Gerwig, spaghetti westerns, the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy and “Portrait of a Lady on Fire”. His favorite TV shows include “Barry”, “Better Call Saul”, “Scrubs”, “Fargo” and the “Cowboy Bebop” anime. His favorite books include “The Dark Tower” by Stephen King, “Norwegian Wood” by Haruki Murakami, “Snow” by Orhan Pamuk and the “One Piece” manga.
